Three Hoyas Earn All-Region Honors

May 27, 2011

WASHINGTON - Three Georgetown University women's lacrosse student-athletes received All-South Region honors from the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association. Seniors Logan McCraw (Malvern, Pa./Conestoga) and Jordy Kirr (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr School) as well as sophomore Sophia Thomas (Lutherville, Md./Maryvale Prep) were honored by the organization which recognized 136 total Division I student-athletes.

McCraw was a first team honoree marking her second all-region honor and her first-career nod to the first team. The defender was a First Team All-BIG EAST selection and the BIG EAST Defender of the Year. The co-captain led the team in draw controls with 42 and ranked second in ground balls with 31. McCraw also has 15 caused turnovers to her credit as well as a goal and an assist. She is among the program's all-time leaders in draw controls. McCraw was a Second Team All-America selection as a junior and is not a two-time regional All-American.

Kirr earns her third-career nod to the All-South Region Second Team after an outstanding career on the Hilltop. Earlier this season, the attacker received her fourth-consecutive All-BIG EAST honor and her first-career spot on the First Team. No other Hoyas had ever earned All-BIG EAST all four years on the Hilltop. Kirr led the Hoyas with 52 points on 26 goals and a team-best 26 assists. She is currently the only player in program history with 100 goals and 100 assists in her career and is the all-time leader in assists. The co-captain won BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week in 2011 as well as a spot on the weekly honor roll.

Thomas joined Kirr on the All-South Region Second Team after a breakout season. Earlier this year, she was honored with the BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year award and a spot on the All-BIG EAST First Team marking milestones in her young career. The sophomore led the team in goals with 37 and also has eight assists to her credit for 45 points. The midfielder had the most ground balls (42) and caused turnovers (33) on the squad, as well as ranking third in draw controls with 24. She was on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll three times this season.

Georgetown finished the season with a record of 9-8 after winning the BIG EAST Regular Season Championship for the fourth-consecutive year. The Hoyas lose seven seniors, including McCraw and Kirr and three additional starters, next season but return three of their top four scorers including Thomas.

The BIG EAST had 27 student-athletes represented spread out among seven institutions.
