Aug. 1, 2011

WASHINGTON - Two former Georgetown University women's lacrosse standouts were named to the U.S. Women's Senior Team roster by US Lacrosse officials on Sunday. Molly Ford (MSB'10) and Ashby Kaestner (MSB'10) both earned spots on the 36-player roster which is coached by a familiar face in Georgetown Head Coach Ricky Fried.

This marks Kaestner's second nod to the national squad after being a member last year and a member of the U.S. Developmental Squad in 2008-09. Kaestner was a three-time All-American after a well-rounded career for the Hoyas. The Trappe, Md., native was a two-time First Team All-BIG EAST selection and the 2009 BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year. She was also a three-time Regional All-America honoree. Ford ended her career ranked among the best in program history ranking among the best in career points, goals and assists as well as among the top ten in season goals and assists.

Fried is in his second year as the head coach of the national team which is a four-year appointment. He is the first male to serve as the head coach of the women's side in the program's history.

The tryout was held over a three-day period in Baltimore, Md., this past weekend and featured more than 80 of the top players in the nation. This team will lay the foundation for the 2013 team that will compete in the 2013 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Cup in Oshawa, Ontario.

This season, the squad will come together for several events including: Stars & Stripes Weekend in October, Champion Challenge in January and conduct numerous national team player clinics throughout the year at various places around the country.

Georgetown has had eight players on the national squad in its history including Kaestner, Ford and current Georgetown Assistant Coach Michi Ellers.

The team's next training session is at the US Lacrosse Stars & Stripes Weekend in October.
