WASHINGTON - Highlighted by seven home games and three games against teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament, Georgetown University Head Field Hockey Coach Tiffany Marsh announced the team's schedule for the 2011 season.
"We're really looking forward to this season," Marsh said. "There are challenges we will face playing in the BIG EAST, but we have an experienced group of players back and a strong recruiting class that will be up to the challenge."
The Hoyas finished the 2010 season with a 6-13 overall record, including a 1-5 mark in the BIG EAST Conference.
Georgetown opens the season with a pair of home games during the weekend of Aug. 26-28. All home games for the Hoyas are played at American University
The team opens the season on Friday, Aug. 26, hosting Davidson College at 1 p.m. and then hosts LaSalle on Sunday, Aug. 28 at 1 p.m.
Other home games include weekend visits from BIG EAST rival Louisville (Saturday, Sept. 17, 11 a.m.) and Towson (Sunday, Sept. 18, 11 a.m.). Connecticut, which advanced to the 2010 NCAA Final Four, will play at Georgetown on Friday, Oct. 7 (3 p.m.), while a game against St. Joseph's is slated for Saturday, Oct. 9 (noon).
The home schedule closes out on Friday, Oct. 21, when the team hosts Senior Day at 3 p.m. against Villanova.
Road games include visits to Lehigh (Friday, Sept. 2, 7 p.m.), Bryant (Friday, Sept. 9, 1 p.m.) and Holy Cross (Saturday, Sept. 10, noon) in the first half of the month. After a home weekend in the middle of September, the Hoyas hit the road for four-straight games - at Lock Haven (Saturday, Sept. 24, 1 p.m.), at St. Francis [Pa.] (Sunday, Sept. 25, 1 p.m.), at Rutgers (Friday, Sept. 30, 3 p.m.) and at Monmouth (Sunday, Oct. 2, noon).
Georgetown plays at 2010 NCAA Tournament participant Syracuse on Friday, Oct. 14 (6 p.m.) and visits Cornell on Sunday, Oct. 16 (1 p.m.). The team closes out the 2011 regular season with a pair of road games, playing at 2010 NCAA Tournament participant American on Sunday, Oct. 23 (1 p.m.) and then visiting Providence on Saturday, Oct. 29 (1 p.m.).
