The Georgetown University field hockey team (0-2) fell to the LaSalle University Explorers, 4-1 on Tuesday afternoon at the William I Jacobs Recreational Complex at American University. Catherine Shugrue (Devon, Pa./Episcopal Academy) scored the only goal for the Hoyas on assists from Laura Thistle (Glenside, Pa./Mount Saint Joseph Academy) and Caitlin Hickey (Milton, Mass./Milton Academy).
Georgetown and LaSalle both took 15 shots in the match, but the Hoyas were unable to convert enough to stay in the game.
LaSalle advances to 1-0. The Explorers began scoring early in the first half and never looked back. Maddy Tettelbach (Fairfax Station, Va./South County) and Olivia Shoemaker (Telford, Pa./Souderton) led LaSalle with two goals each.
The Georgetown goal came off a penalty corner inserted by Hickey, placed by Thistle, and shot by Shugrue, that tied the score at one goal apiece midway through the first half.
The Explorers scored three unanswered goals to close out the Hoyas.
Georgetown travels to Bethlehem, Pa. for their next game at Lehigh University on September 2 at 7 p.m.
