The Georgetown University field hockey team (2-5) stumbled against Towson (4-3) by a score of 5-1 at the William I. Jacobs Recreational Complex at American University on Sunday, September 18. Charlotte Tierney (Rye, N.Y./Holy Child) had the goal for the Hoyas.
Tierney broke away from several defenders off a turnover in the 51st minute. Weaving through the Towson back line, she fired a shot from 20 yards out into the bottom right corner of the goal. It was the first goal of the season for Tierney.
Goalies Briana Pereira (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) and Kelly Mosser (Farfield, N.J./West Essex) each played a half for Georgetown. Each had two saves for the Blue and Gray.
Both teams played a physical, competitive game. Georgetown had five penalty corners to Towson's seven. The Tigers also out-shot the Hoyas 18-5 for the game. Kasie Nurko had two goals and Katie DeFilippo had three assists for Towson.
The Georgetown field hockey team plays its next four games on the road, at Lock Haven, St. Francis (Pa.), Rutgers, and Monmouth (N.J.). The Hoyas return home to the William I. Jacobs Recreational Complex to play their third BIG EAST game against Connecticut on October 7 at 3 p.m.
