Women's Lacrosse Named to Two Additional Preseason Polls

Feb. 9, 2012

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's lacrosse squad has earned two additional rankings for the 2012 season. The Hoyas were selected No. 13 in The deBeer Women's Media Preseason Poll and No. 15 by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association. The Blue & Gray will open the season on February 29 at home against Delaware.

Georgetown was one of three BIG EAST squads to earn a spot in the media rankings with Loyola University (Md.) earning No. 7 and Syracuse University sitting at No. 12 just in front of the Hoyas.

The IWLCA had four BIG EAST teams in the rankings with Loyola at No. 7, Syracuse at No. 12 and the Blue & Gray at No. 15 followed up by the No. 20 University of Notre Dame.

Georgetown finished last season with a record of 9-8 after winning the BIG EAST Regular Season Championship for the fourth-consecutive year. GU was ranked No. 18 in the final poll from Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association.

The Hoyas lost seven seniors, including five starters, from a season ago, but return three of their top four scorers.

Earlier this year, the Hoyas were selected No. 12 in the Inside Lacrosse Preseason Poll and No. 17 by Lacrosse Magazine. Additionally, the BIG EAST coaches picked the Blue & Gray to finish first in the conference's preseason poll.

Georgetown will start off 2012 hosting the University of Delaware Blue Hens at Multi-Sport Field on Feb. 29. Delaware is new to the Hoyas' schedule this season and finished fourth in the Colonial Athletic Conference a year ago.
