WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University softball team (14-17) will travel to Piscataway, N.J. for a three-game series against Rutgers (13-15) beginning at noon on Saturday.
The Hoyas had a three-game conference series scheduled for last weekend against Notre Dame (14-10), but inclement weather forced the cancellation of all three contests. The Blue & Gray also had to delay a 3 p.m. game against Towson (15-14) on Tuesday due to unplayable field conditions.
Georgetown claimed a win against George Mason (8-23) by a score of 2-1 in nine innings on Wednesday in Fairfax, Va.
Megan Hyson (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) ripped a home run in the seventh inning to tie the game and stage the comeback for the Hoyas.
Taylor Koenig (Akron, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) scored the winning run in the ninth off a sacrifice fly from
Mackensey Carter (Mission Viejo, Calif./Mission Viejo).
Lauren O'Leary (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) leads all Georgetown pitchers in strikeouts with 80. The freshman's strikeout tally ranks seventh in the BIG EAST and second among all freshmen in the conference. O'Leary is part of a Georgetown pitching staff that posts a 2.38 ERA to rank fifth in team pitching in the BIG EAST.
Brittney Lindley leads the Rutgers offense with 27 hits, 16 RBI and a batting average of .422. The senior infielder ranks second in the conference in batting average. The Scarlet Knights swept Seton Hall (15-17) on Tuesday in a doubleheader winning 1-0 and 11-5.
