WASHINGTON - Georgetown used a late sixth inning run and Lauren O'Leary (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) picked up her second save of the season as the Hoyas improved their winning streak to eight games in a 3-2 win over Towson University Thursday afternoon. The victory improves what is the longest winning streak in Georgetown softball history.

Junior Madeleine Giaquinto (Falls Church, Va./Bishop O'Connell) broke the 2-2 tie in the sixth inning, leading off the inning with a solo homerun to left center field, her first of the season. Georgetown would load the bases with only one out but failed to capitalize on the scoring chance, holding on to a one run lead going into the seventh inning.

O'Leary entered the game in the bottom of the sixth inning, relieving Megan Hyson (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake), who pitched five innings and struck out seven batters in her fourth win of the season. O'Leary and Hyson combined to allow five hits, giving up only one in the last two innings to hold Towson to two runs.

Georgetown scored the first runs of the ballgame in the third inning. After reaching base on an error by the first baseman, junior Elyse Graziano (Floral Park, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) stole second and was brought home by Samantha Giovanniello's (Floral Park, N.Y./Floral Park Memorial) single up the middle.

Two batters later senior Shikara Lowe (Beaverton, Ore./Jesuit) doubled to left field to score Giovanniello for a 2-0 lead. It was Lowe's third consecutive game with at least one RBI and extends her hitting streak to four games.

Towson answered Georgetown with runs in the fourth and fifth innings, however Guiaquinto's homerun in the top of the sixth would be the game-deciding run and ultimately give the Hoyas the victory.

Georgetown takes the weekend off before their next game on Wednesday, April 3rd, when they face BIG EAST conference opponent Notre Dame at Guy Mason Field. Game time is scheduled for noon.
