Bethesda, Md. - Georgetown overcame five errors that led to five unearned runs and junior first baseman Steve Anderson (Albany, N.Y./Guilderland) scored the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Hoyas beat Coppin State, 6-5, in a college baseball game at Shirley Povich Field Wednesday night.

It was the sixth-straight non-league win for Georgetown, who improves to 25-18 overall, while Coppin State falls to 14-19 overall.

The teams traded three-run second innings and then traded single runs through the fifth inning before the game went to extra innings.

In the bottom of the 10th, Anderson drew a one-out walk and then stole second before senior second baseman Danny Poplawski (Bellevue, Wash./Overlake) was hit by a pitch. Anderson then stole third, but the attempt from Coppin State catcher Alex Brown was off the mark, allowing the winning run to score.

That made a winner of freshman Gino Basso (Glen Allen, Ga./Godwin), who threw a 1-2-3 10th inning to pick up his second win of the season.

After senior left-hander Thomas Polus (Crown Point, Ind./Andrean) gave up five runs - all unearned - on four hits with four walks and six strikeouts in 4.2 innings, the Hoya bullpen allowed only three hits with one walk in 5.1 innings. Senior James Heine (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) threw 1.1 innings, while freshman Tim Davis (Vienna, Va./James Madison), senior Neal Dennison (Houston, Texas/Lamar) and senior Charles Steinman (Rockville Centre, N.Y./Chaminade) each threw one inning of scoreless ball.

Coppin State jumped on top of Georgetown in the second, taking advantage of two walks and two errors to score three unearned runs. The Hoyas responded in the bottom of the inning, with Anderson hitting an RBI single to score junior Christian Venditti (Newtonville, Mass./St. Sebastian's), who had walked and stole second. A walk to Poplawski and an error put senior Corbin Blakey (Alpharetta, Ga./Centennial) on to load the bases for senior left fielder Paul Bello (Towaca, N.J./Delbarton), who hit a sacrifice fly to cut the lead to 3-2. A single from sophomore shortstop Ryan Busch (Falcon Heights, Minn./Roseville Area) loaded the bases again and Poplawski scored on a wild pitch, tying the game.

The Eagles took a 4-3 lead with an unearned run in the third, but the Hoyas tied the game in the fourth. Blakey hit a leadoff single, stole second and scored when senior center fielder Justin Leeson (Exton, Pa./West Chester) reached on an error.

Georgetown trailed 5-4 in the fifth, but Anderson took care of things quickly, blasting a home run to right to tie the game at 5-all and the teams were scoreless for the next four innings before the Hoyas broke the tie in the 10th inning.

Georgetown continues its five-game homestand this weekend, hosting Pittsburgh () in a key BIG EAST series this weekend at Shirley Povich Field. First pitch on Friday, May 3 is slated for 7 p.m.
