WASHINGTON - The Georgetown field hockey team (5-9, 0-3 BIG EAST) welcomes the No. 16 Temple Owls (11-5, 2-1 BIG EAST) to Multi Sport Field on Friday afternoon for a conference matchup. The game is the second to last conference matchup for the Hoyas this season and will serve as Alumni Day, with former Hoya players being recognized at halftime.
GU enters the game on Friday on a high note, having defeated Colgate on Sunday, 3-0, to break a five-game losing streak dating back to Sept. 28. The Hoyas held the Raiders to seven shots en route to their third shutout of the season.
Junior Emily Weinberg (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Hathaway Brown) scored two goals during the win and was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll on Monday. She is the second Hoya to earn the honor after Aliyah Graves-Brown (Harrisburg, Pa./Harrisburg Academy) was named the week of Sept. 1.
Weinberg and Graves-Brown are currently tied for the team lead in goals with five apiece.
In the cage, sophomore Rachel Skonecki (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Red Land) has continued to rack up saves. The goalie is third in the league in saves with 72, she surpassed her previous career high mark of 10 saves in the overtime loss against Villanova when she recorded 11.
The Hoyas' backline has continued to contribute to Skonecki's effort with defensive saves. Molly Thompson (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Pioneer) now leads the conference in that category with three. She recorded a defensive save in the overtime loss to the Wildcats. Devin Holmes (Fleetville, Pa./Wyoming Seminary) is tied for second with two.
Temple comes to The Hilltop ranked at No. 16 in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Poll. The Owls sit at 11-5 having won five of their last seven games. Temple has won five straight games against the Hoyas, including last season's meeting which was a 5-1 loss by GU on the road.
Forward Amber Youtz leads the team with 21 goals on the season, also making her first in NCAA Division I scorers. Defensively, goalkeeper Lizzy Millen has a save percentage of .795 and boasts a goals against average of 1.55. She has 89 saves on the season with 16 games under her belt.
Following the matchup with the Owls, the Hoyas will play three games in a five-day span to finish out the season. Georgetown will travel to Lynchburg, Va., to take on Liberty on Tuesday before hosting Old Dominion and Towson at home on Friday and Sunday.
