LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Georgetown University field hockey team (5-11) could not keep pace with Liberty University's (11-7) offense in a 7-0 loss at Liberty Field Hockey Field on Tuesday afternoon.
Sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Skonecki (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Red Land) recorded 16 saves against a persistent Flames' offense that took 36 shots on the afternoon.
The Hoyas and Flames played scoreless through nearly 17 minutes, before Hannah Jones scored on a penalty corner to put the Blue & Gray in a 1-0 hole. The Flames added one more goal before halftime to take a 2-0 lead into the break.
The Flames came out hot in the second half, scoring three times within the first 10 minutes to keep the momentum. Serena Barr assisted the final two Liberty goals, including one with eight seconds remaining in regulation for three assists for the game.
Sophomore Devin Holmes (Fleetville, Pa./Wyoming Seminary) took the Hoyas lone shot in the second half.
Georgetown returns to action on Friday, October 31 when they host BIG EAST opponent No. 17 Old Dominion (10-6) at Multi-Sport Field. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. The Blue & Gray will conclude its season at home against Towson on Sunday, November 2.
