Oct. 3, 2014 WASHINGTON - The Georgetown field hockey team (4-5) travels to Storrs, Conn., to take on the Huskies at the George J. Sherman Family-Sports Complex on Saturday, Oct. 4 at noon. The game is the BIG EAST opener for both teams. The contest is also the last of a three-game road stretch for the Hoyas.
GU is coming off a weekend in New York during which it defeated Siena, 1-0, on Friday, before dropping its match against Columbia, 8-1, on Sunday.
Sophomore defender Devin Holmes (Fleetville, Pa./Wyoming Seminary) scored her first goal of the season in the win against Siena, making her the seventh Hoya to score a goal this season. Junior forward Sarah Butterfield (Bridgewater, N.J./Oak Knoll), who provided the assist on the Holmes' goal, scored her third goal of the season in the loss against Columbia on Sunday.
Butterfield is one of three Hoyas with three goals, joining Aliyah Graves-Brown (Harrisburg, Pa./Harrisburg Academy) and Megan Parsons (Chester Springs, Pa./Villa Maria).
Defensively, sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Skonecki (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Red Land), tied her previous season and career record for saves (eight) against Columbia. She now has 37 saves on the season, placing her fourth in the conference. She is averaging 4.62 saves per game, third in the BIG EAST, and has two shutouts in 2014.
Saturday's game will be the 12th meeting between the schools, with UConn having an all-time 11-0 advantage. When the teams met last season, the Huskies were victorious 5-0. This year, UConn is 6-2 and is coming off a pair of losses against No. 9 Stanford and No. 1 UNC over the weekend. Connecticut stands at No. 6 in the latest National Field Hockey Coaches Association/ Penn Monto Poll with 624 points.
Charlotte Veitner and Sophie Bowden lead the team in goals with four apiece. Goalie Nina Klein has played in all eight games and recorded 20 saves. She leads the conference in shutouts with four and her goals against average, 1.03, is tops in the BIG EAST as well.

Following the game in Storrs, Conn., the Hoyas return to the Hilltop for back-to-back games against Providence and Saint Joseph's on Saturday, Oct. 11 and Sunday, Oct. 12, both games are set for a noon start.
