Nov. 18, 2014 WASHINGTON - Five members of the Georgetown University women's lacrosse squad along with Head Coach Ricky Fried traveled to New York City last week to attend the team's inaugural alumnae event.
"It was a great event and I hope it continues to grow to include more alums and more student-athletes," said Fried. "It was a good first step and there was a lot of enthusiasm on both sides. I'd like to thank the alums for taking time out of their busy schedules to meet some of our current Hoyas."
It was a two-day event including a dinner and career day featuring 10 alums spanning graduation years from 2001-11. The trip was arranged by The Annual Fund for Georgetown Athletics and Hoyas Unlimited.
The dinner the night before was attended by Fried as well as Jacqueline Proch (C'10), Ali Chambers (MSB'05), MaryBeth Brophy (MSB'11), Lauren Hannon Redler (C'05, M'09), Schuyler Sutton (C'07), Hilary Polk-Williams (MSB'03), Noelle Verity (MSB'91), Megan Bloomer (MSB'09), jordan Trautman (C'09) and Emily Bock (MSB'10).
The group included those with careers in finance, hospitality, fashion, sports and orthopedic medicine as well as lacrosse on both the coaching side and the business side.
The following day, Brophy and Ashby Kaestner (MSB'10) hosted current players for a career day. Current Hoyas Maddy Fisher, Colleen Lovett, Megan McDonald, Kristen Bandos and Annie Heagarty traveled to New York to meet the alums and get a glimpse of life beyond the Hilltop.
Brophy is in high grade credit sales at Barclays. She joined the company following graduation after interning there the summer before her senior year. Kaestner is the manager of east coast client services at Major League Baseball Advanced Media. She began there after interning with the National Football League for almost a year.
The trip proved to be a learning experience for the players, and a great way for current athletes to network with successful alums. It also gave the alumnae an opportunity to meet the current Hoyas to keep a connection with the current squad.
While this was the first event, Fried hopes it will become a tradition for members of the program to travel to New York each year and see how much success they have ahead of them.
