Nov. 24, 2014 WASHINGTON - Georgetown University softball Head Coach Pat Conlan announced the signing of Kelly Amen (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough), Mallory Belknap (/Scottsdale, Ariz./Xavier Colle Prep), Madison Morris (Hampton, Va./Kecoughton) and Olivia Russ (Fountain Valley, Calif./Ocean View) to National Letters of Intent on Friday.
The four incoming freshmen will add depth to a squad that currently boasts 13 student-athletes.
Belknap will come to the Hilltop from Xavier College Prep in Phoenix, Ariz. The infielder was named varsity offensive MVP as a freshman, sophomore and junior and is currently on pace to set the school record in hits and runs. She is the Full Count Softball No. 96 player in the class of 2015, a two-time Arizona badminton team state champion; Belknap is a member of the National Honor Society and her Senior Class vice-president. As a junior she was named All-Phoenix First Team, All-Section First Team and All-State Honorable Mention.
Russ, an infielder from Ocean View High School, is a two-year scholar-athlete and captain. Russ was Second Team All-Golden West League as a freshmen and First Team All-Golden West League as a sophomore and junior, she posted a .415 batting average and a .471 on-base percentage last season and was named her high school's defensive player of the year.
Amen, an infielder form Hillsborough High School in Hillsborough, N.J., was First Team Skyland Conference and All-County in 2014. The MVP of the Somerset County Tournament, she was named 2014 Catcher of the Year by the Courier News and Second Team All-Area. Amen's high school team was the Skyland Conference Delware Division Champions, the Somerset County Champions as well as the Central Jersey Group IV Champions and Jersey State Group IV Runners-up.
Morris, from Hampton, Va., was a First Team All-Conference pitcher in 2013 and 2014 as well as the Monitor-Merrimac Conference Softball Player of the Year in 2014. A four-year starter for the Virginia Legends 18U Premier team, she led them to a 17th place finish in the National PGF Tournament in 2013.
"I am excited about our 2015 freshman class and I look forward to welcoming Maddy, Kelly, Mallory, Olivia and their families to campus in the Fall," Conlan said. "These student-athletes are strong and athletic and fit our needs perfectly. They are tremendous people and have great energy. I am excited with the impact they are going to make in the classroom and on the field during their careers on the Hilltop."
