Nick Alfieri Named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week

Nov. 3, 2014

WASHINGTON - Senior linebacker Nick Alfieri (Portland, Ore./Jesuit/The Hotchkiss School) was named the Corvias Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week when weekly awards were announced by the league office on Monday morning. This is the second time Alfieri has earned defensive player of the week honors this season.

Against Lehigh, Alfieri recorded a career-high 18 tackles, 0.5 tackles for loss of four yards, a half sack and a forced fumble. His 18 tackles is tied for the third best single-game mark in program history with Tim McAneney, Peter Elliott, Patrick O'Donnell and Alex Poulos.

Alfieri, the 2014 Joe Eacobacci No. 35 Memorial Jersey recipient, became just the third Hoya to eclipse 300 career tackles. He is third in program history with 315 tackles, trailing only Robert McCabe (407) and Nick Parrish (349), the 2010 No. 35 jersey recipient. Currently he leads the Patriot League and is sixth in the FCS in tackles, averaging 11.0 per game through nine games.

The Hoyas have a bye, before returning to action on November 15, when they travel to Bronx, N.Y. to take on No. 10 Fordham. Kick-off with the Rams is scheduled for 1 p.m.
