WASHINGTON - The Georgetown men's tennis team (4-3) capped off its two-match trip in New Haven, Conn. on Sunday but were unfortunately not able to come away with the win against Bryant (6-3) who defeated the Hoyas in a close match, 4-3.
The Georgetown men won three singles matches but dropped the early doubles point which turned out to be the different in the match.
Sophomore Daniel Khanin (Baldwin, N.Y./Pendleton) and junior Alex Tropiano (Laurel Hollow, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) won the lone doubles match for the Hoyas in the No. 2 position against Bryant's No. 1 singles player Dana Parziale and Ernesto Arguello, 6-4.
Khahin went on to face Parziale at the No. 1 singles position, but dropped the two set match, 6-0, 6-2.
Junior Shane Korber (Newport Beach, Calif./Corona Del Mar) won in the No. 2 position for Georgetown in one of four three-set matches on Sunday. Korber dropped the first set, 3-6, but came back strong in the final two to win, 6-4, 6-5. Korber is 3-3 in the No. 2 position for the Blue & Gray so far this spring.
Senior co-captain Casey Distaso (The Woodlands, Texas/Edmond North) and freshman Yannik Mahlangu (Henderson, Nev./Green Valley), who played in the No. 3 and 4 positions, both dropped their matches after they both won their first sets, 6-4.
Junior Alex Tropiano (Laurel Hollow, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) managed Georgetown's only straight-set victory when he defeated Arguello, 6-5, 6-4. Tropiano moved to 4-1 in spring singles play with the No. 5 position victory. As a team this spring, three different players have competed out of the fifth position and they are still undefeated with a 5-0 mark.
Junior John Brosens (Bedford, N.Y./Brunswick School) won a three-set affair, 6-5, 4-6, 6-4, in the No. 6 position for Georgetown. Dating back to the fall, Brosens is 7-3.
The men are scheduled to play Davidson on Sat., Feb 22 in Washington, D.C.
