WASHINGTON - The No. 14/15 Georgetown University women's lacrosse squad (3-5) will host the University of Louisville Cardinals (6-3) on Saturday at Multi-Sport Field in the teams' BIG EAST Conference opener at 2 p.m. The Hoyas will be honoring the 2004 Final Four team at halftime as well as raising awareness for the charity Friends of Jaclyn.
Georgetown allowed a late comeback in an 8-5 loss to the No. 15/14 Loyola (Md.) University Greyhounds Wednesday evening at Multi-Sport Field. The game was originally scheduled for Tuesday evening, but inclement weather in the District postponed it to Wednesday.
Five different players scored for Georgetown as senior midfielder Kelyn Freedman (Newtown Square, Pa./Radnor) led the way with a goal and an assist as well as four caused turnovers.
The game was close as the Hoyas outshot the Greyhounds (18-17), had more draw controls (8-7) and went 2-for6 on free position shots. Freshman goalkeeper Maddy Fisher (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) took the loss in the cage with five saves to her credit.
Freedman leads the squad in scoring with 18 points on 14 goals and a team-best four assists. Junior attacker Caroline Tarzian (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) and sophomore attacker Corinne Etchison (Eldersburg, Md./McDonogh School) are both tied for second with 17 points each. Tarzian has 14 goals and three assists, while Etchison has tallied 13 goals and a team-best four assists.
Senior attacker Reilly Woodman (Alexandria, Va./St. Stephen's and St. Agnes) has pulled in a squad-best 28 draw controls, while junior defender Adrianne Devine (Loudonville, N.Y./Shaker) has posted 15 caused turnovers.
Fisher has tallied 26 saves in eight games played.
The Cardinals are returning to action after not having played since defeating Vanderbilt on March 19. Louisville (6-3) earned an 18-14 victory in a matchup that never saw either team trail or lead by more than three goals during regulation. Collectively, Louisville outshot Vanderbilt 35-27, held an 18-14 advantage in ground balls, and won the draw control battle 19-16.
Georgetown is 7-0 all-time against Louisville and is 3-0 at home in the series. Last season, the Hoyas won 14-11 at Multi-Sport Field. Tarzian had five goals, while Etchison posted three and Freedman scored two in the victory.
The opening draw is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Multi-Sport Field. Live stats and a new and improved webcast will be available through www.GUHoyas.com.
