Sept. 19, 2014 WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University field hockey team (2-3) and first year Head Coach Shannon Soares return to Multi Sport Field this weekend as they play host to Longwood and Lehigh for back-to-back contests on Saturday and Sunday.
GU will look to rebound from its most recent 4-1 loss at the hands of Brown in Providence, R.I. Sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Skonecki (Mechanisburg, Pa./Red Land) recorded eight saves against the Bears to bring her total up to 21 on the year, an average of 5.25 per game. Her saves per game ranks third in the BIG EAST Conference.
On the offensive side, freshman Megan Parsons (Chester Springs, Pa./Villa Maria) and sophomore Aliyah Graves-Brown both have three goals for the Blue & Gray. Their stats are currently tops in the BIG EAST, with Parsons ranking first in the conference in points per game with an average of 1.75. Graves-Brown is currently third in that same category, averaging 1.60 points per game.
The team will first take on Longwood on Saturday at 6 p.m. at Multi Sport Field. It is the first time the two teams will take the field against each other since the 2009 season. The last matchup saw Longwood take down the Hoyas by a final score of 1-0. The Lancers come to the Hilltop with a record of 3-4 after winning their most recent game against Missouri State on Thursday, Sept. 18 by a final of 4-1. The team is led by Jennifer Burris who has four goals and three assists for a total of 11 points on the year.
Following the matchup versus the Lancers, Georgetown will host Lehigh on Multi Sport Field on Sunday.
The Mountain Hawks currently sit at 1-5 after the team's first victory, a 2-1 win against Towson, on Sunday, Sept. 14 at the Ulrich Sports Complex. Lehigh is led by Lindsey Schott and Gabby Tofig who both have three goals this season. The team will take on American University at the William I. Jacobs Recreational Complex on Saturday before coming to the Hilltop and taking on the Hoyas.
Last season's meeting against the Mountain Hawks in Bethlehem, Pa., was a 4-0 win in favor of Lehigh.
The match is slated to start at noon and admission is free for everyone.
