Final Stats

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Georgetown University field hockey team (6-7, 0-2 BIG EAST) fell behind Longwood early in the first half on the road on Sunday, but scored an equalizer late and game-winner in overtime to come away with an exciting 2-1 victory.

Senior Louise Chakejian (Chester Springs, Pa. / The Episcopal Academy) scored her first goal of the season in the 67th minute to tie the game and junior Aliyah Graves-Brown (Harrisburg, Pa. / Harrisburg Academy) buried the game-winner just over 11 minutes into overtime off an assist from Chakejian. Goalkeeper Rachel Skonecki (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Red Land) made her 13th start in the cage for the Hoyas and made 11 saves for her fourth double-digit performance this season.

Longwood was quick out of the gate as Edel Achterwinter rebounded a penalty corner into the Hoya cage less than three minutes into the game. The Hoyas responded with five shots, including three shots on goal but were unable to find the back of the cage, giving Longwood a 1-0 advantage heading into the half.

In the second half, the Hoyas and the Lancers traded shots until Georgetown was able to sneak one past Longwood goalkeeper Lauren Bernard. With less than three minutes left in regulation, Chakejian slammed a high shot from the top of the arc to tie the game, 1-1. Longwood got three more shots off in the last minutes of regulation, but time expired with the score at 1-1 setting up the overtime period.

Heading into overtime, the Lancers put pressure on the Hoyas with six shots but Georgetown stayed steady. In the 81st minute of play, Chakejian would find an opportunity as she dribbled into the circle along the baseline and connected with Graves-Brown in front of the net. The goal gave the Hoyas a 2-1 victory and their second-overtime win of the season.

Georgetown will return to the field on Friday, Oct. 16 at 1 p.m. as the Hoyas welcome BIG EAST opponent, Villanova to Cooper Field.
