Georgetown Field Hockey Visits Old Dominion and Longwood

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Georgetown University field hockey team continues its four-game road swing with matchups against the Old Dominion Lady Monarchs and the Longwood Lancers. The Hoyas face off against Old Dominion on Friday, Oct. 9 at 6 p.m. and Longwood on Sunday, Oct. 11 at 1 p.m.

The Hoyas enter the weekend 5-6 overall and 0-1 in BIG EAST action. Last weekend, GU stumbled with losses to Providence, 4-1 and Brown, 2-1. Helena Masiello (East Greenbush, N.Y. / Columbia High School) was the lone scorer for the Hoyas, as the freshman netted a goal in each game. Masiello tops the Georgetown offense with eight points on four goals and a .444 shot percentage.

Junior Devin Holmes (Fleetville, Pa./ Wyoming Seminary) and sophomore Megan Parsons (Chester Springs, Pa. / Villa Maria) follow with six points (2g, 2a) apiece while senior Sarah Butterfield (Bridgewater, N.J. / Oak Knoll) has contributed five points (2g, 1a). Butterfield has also registered a team-high 29 shots on the season, including a game-best five shots against Providence in Georgetown's BIG EAST opener last weekend.

Junior Rachel Skonecki (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Red Land) continues to pace the Hoya defense with 789:44 minutes played in goal. She ranks third in the NCAA with a .814 save percentage while having collected 70 saves on the season.

The Lady Monarchs come into the weekend ranked No. 15 in the NFHCA Coaches Poll for the second-consecutive week. Old Dominion has posted a 6-3 overall record, defeating four ranked teams in the process. Senior Sarah Breen leads the offense with 20 points on nine goals and two assists, ranking six in the nation in goals per game. She currently has 101 points on 43 goals and 15 assists. Sophomore Danielle Grega ranks second on the squad with 13 points (6g, 1a). The game will be a conference opener for the Lady Monarchs as they're matchup against Temple was postponed due to inclement weather.

The Lancers went 1-1 last weekend, beating Ball State, 3-1, before falling to No. 4 Duke, 0-7. Longwood is led by Jennifer Burris and Hollie MacDonald, with 13 points on six goals and one assist apiece. Edel Nyland follows with nine points on four goals and one assists. The Lancers have registered 20 goals on the season.

Lauren Bernard and Katie Wyman have split time in goal for Longwood, averaging a combined goals-against average of 3.54. Bernard has garnered 45 saves in 560:51 minutes played while Wyman has posted 16 saves in 151:07 minutes played.
