March 10, 2015

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's lacrosse squad (1-3) will host the No. 4/3 Duke University Blue Devils (7-0) on Wednesday afternoon at Multi-Sport Field in a 3 p.m. matchup. The contest rounds out a four-game homestand for the Blue & Gray.

The Hoyas fell, 13-10, to the Towson University Tigers (2-0) Saturday afternoon at Multi-Sport Field. Georgetown was in it early, but second-half runs by the Tigers were too much to overcome.

Junior midfielder Kristen Bandos (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame of Namur) led the Hoyas with three goals for the second-consecutive game. Sophomore attacker Colleen Lovett (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) added two goals and an assist, while senior attacker Caroline Tarzian (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) added a goal and two assists.

The Hoyas outshot the Patriots, 26-20, but struggled on the draw with just nine to Towson's 16. Georgetown held the 18-13 advantage on ground balls and forced 18 Tiger turnovers while committing just 14.

Sophomore goalkeeper Maddy Fisher (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) took the loss in the cage with one save in the contest. Junior goalkeeper Megan McDonald (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) played in the second half, and posted two saves as well.

Lovett is leading the Hoyas in scoring with six goals and four assists on the season for 10 points. She is followed by Tarzian who has six goals and two assists for the year. Bandos has tallied six goals on the season and junior attacker Corinne Etchison (Eldersburg, Md./McDonogh School) has five goals and one assist for six points.

Three players have six draw controls apiece, while senior defender Casey McGowan (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) has picked up a team-best 11 ground balls. Senior defender Adrianne Devine (Loudonville, N.Y./Shaker) has also posted nine caused turnovers on the defensive end of the field.

Fisher has seen a majority of the minutes in the cage with 15 saves to her credit.

Freshman Kyra Harney turned in the second hat trick of her career and registered a career-high three assists to help Duke outlast Virginia Tech, 15-10, Friday at Koskinen Stadium. The score was knotted 6-6 at the half but the Blue Devil defense limited the Hokies to just two scores inside the final 16 minutes to secure the win. Kerrin Maurer notched five draw controls to help Duke win the category, 16-11. The squad also outshot Virginia Tech, 27-18.

The Hoyas are 8-14 all-time against the Blue Devils and won the last meeting, 11-10, a season ago in North Carolina. Georgetown had four different players hit two goals apiece for balanced scoring. The Hoyas were outshot and had fewer draw controls, however the defense forced 11 Blue Devil turnovers which made the difference. Georgetown is 4-7 at home against the Blue Devils.

The opening draw is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Multi-Sport Field. Live stats and a webcast will be available through www.GUHoyas.com.
