April 10, 2015

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's lacrosse squad (3-9, 2-1 BIG EAST) will host the University of Cincinnati Bearcats (2-11, 0-3 BIG EAST) on Saturday afternoon at Multi-Sport Field in a noon matchup. Georgetown is back at Multi-Sport Field after a pair of BIG EAST road contests.

GU downed the Villanova University Wildcats, 9-5, in a BIG EAST Conference matchup on a rainy Wednesday evening at Villanova Stadium in Villanova, Pa. The victory handed VU its first conference loss of the season and snapped a five-game home win streak for the `Cats.

Senior attacker Caroline Tarzian (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) led the Hoyas with two goals and two assists, while junior attacker Corinne Etchison (Eldersburg, Md./McDonogh School) had two goals and one assist. Junior midfielder Kristen Bandos (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame of Namur) managed two goals, and senior attacker Mollie Caputo (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville Manlius) had one goal and two assists.

The Hoyas outshot the Wildcats, 31-18, and had the advantage on the draw with 11 to VU's six. Georgetown held the 29-19 advantage on ground balls and forced 17 Wildcat turnovers while committing just 13.

Sophomore goalkeeper Maddy Fisher (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) took the win in the cage with eight saves in the contest.

Tarzian leads the Hoyas in scoring with 23 points on 16 goals and seven assists. Sophomore attacker Colleen Lovett (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) has managed 14 goals and six assists for 20 points. Bandos and Etchison are tied for third with 16 points apiece. Bandos has 15 goals and one assist, while Etchison has posted 11 goals and five assists.

Junior midfielder Kelsey Perselay (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) leads the squad with 20 draw controls, while senior defender Casey McGowan (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) has picked up a team-best 26 ground balls. Senior defender Adrianne Devine (Loudonville, N.Y./Shaker) has also posted 18 caused turnovers on the defensive end of the field.

Fisher has seen a majority of the minutes in the cage with 68 saves to her credit.

Cincinnati is looking to snap a six-game losing streak, with the most recent defeat coming to Vanderbilt, 13-8, on Wednesday at the Sheakely Athletics Center. The Bearcats won several statistical categories, including ground balls, draw controls and saves, but couldn't overcome 20 turnovers as they fell to the Commodores in the first BIG EAST meeting between the two schools.

UC is led offensively by Courtney Curtis, the junior has 33 goals and a pair of assists on the season. Her 2.54 goals per game rank third in the BIG EAST and 45th nationally. She is followed by a quartet of teammates who have eclipsed 16 points on the season. Senior Ashley Helmrath has 10 goals and seven assists, while sophomore Dani Tunnell, freshman Brianna Miller and junior Sarah Del Bene each have 16 points on the year.

Georgetown is 6-0 all-time against the Bearcats with the series beginning in 2009. The Blue & Gray is 3-0 at home and won the last meeting at Mutli-Sport Field, 21-3, during the 2013 season. Last year, Georgetown downed Cincy, 20-5, on the road.

The Georgetown Athletics Department will hold a t-shirt exchange on Saturday during both the men's and women's lacrosse games. As a way to spread school spirit on campus and in the community, Georgetown Athletics invites all students and fans to turn in their non-Georgetown t-shirts and exchange them for new Georgetown gear.

There is a point system for trading and redeeming the shirts. Fans can receive 3 points for turning in Villanova or Syracuse shirts. Shirts of Big East (non-Villanova), ACC (non-Syracuse), Big Ten and Ivy League schools will be worth two points. All other college shirts will be worth one point. Fans can them redeem those points at the game for new Georgetown shirts. Fans can donate up to 5 shirts, per person, for points. All shirts collected from the exchange will be given to local charities, and Georgetown Athletics will match that donation by donating a number of new shirts to the charities as well.

The opening draw is scheduled for noon at Multi-Sport Field. Live stats and a webcast will be available through www.GUHoyas.com.
