WASHINGTON- The Georgetown men's tennis squad was battled George Mason in a tightly-contested matchup on Monday afternoon in Fairfax, Va., but it was the Patriots who ultimately emerged victorious over the Hoyas with a 4-3 final. The difference came in doubles play as George Mason won the No. 2 and 3 doubles matches.
The teams split singles play, as the Patriots won at No. 1, 5 and 6 while the Hoyas took the No. 2, 3 and 4 matches.
Freshman Marco Lam (Hong King, China/Diocesan Boys' School) defeated Aaron Capitel, 6-0, 6-7(3), 10-6 at the No. 2 spot for GU, while his classmate Peter Beatty (Portland, Ore./Middlesex School) was victorious over Tanner Blaine, 7-5, 6-7(3), 10-5 from the No. 4 position.
Alex Tropiano (Laurel Hollow, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) was victorious at No. 3 singles over Joe Hill, 3-6, 6-3, 10-6.
In doubles play, the duo of Jack Murphy (Coronado, Calif./La Jolla County Day) and Lam defeated Capitel and Nick Barker, 8-1.
GU concluded regular season play on Tuesday, April 18 when it travels to Baltimore, Md., for a matchup against UMBC. The match is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
