Hoyas Host Temple in Regular Season Finale

April 24, 2015

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's lacrosse squad (6-9, 5-1 BIG EAST) will host the Temple University Owls (10-5, 2-4 BIG EAST) in the regular season finale on Saturday afternoon at Multi-Sport Field in a 3 p.m. matchup. Saturday is also Senior Day as the squad honors the nine members of the 2015 senior class in a short pregame ceremony.

On Tuesday, junior Kristen Bandos (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame of Namur) and senior Adrianne Devine (Loudonville, N.Y./Shaker) both earned weekly honors as the Hoyas clinched the No. 2 seed in the BIG EAST Championship with a 2-0 week. Bandos was named the BIG EAST Midfielder of the Week, while Devine was named the BIG EAST Defender of the Week.

The junior totaled seven points off seven goals, adding three ground balls, a draw control and five caused turnovers. In Wednesday's career-high five-goal showing against UConn, Bandos capped the day with the game-winning score with 15 seconds left as Georgetown escaped with a 13-12 win on its home field. Four of Bandos' five goals came over the final 30 minutes as GU thwarted the upset bid by the Huskies. The junior scored Georgetown's final two goals at Marquette, keeping the Golden Eagles just out of reach as the Hoyas won 8-7 in Milwaukee.

Devine led a Georgetown defense which scored a pair of victories last week, totaling four draw controls, three caused turnovers and two ground balls, while also adding a trio of goals to her credit. In the 8-7 win at Marquette on Saturday, Devine marked the Golden Eagles' No. 3 scorer in Riley Hill, limiting her to one goal and committing a season-high three turnovers. All three of Devine's goals came against UConn in the 13-12 win, with the third score coming with six minutes left which tied the game 11-11.

Senior attacker Caroline Tarzian (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) leads the Hoyas in scoring with 31 points on 21 goals and 10 assists. Sophomore attacker Colleen Lovett (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) has managed 17 goals and nine assists for 26 points. Junior midfielder Kristen Bandos (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame of Namur) rounds out the top three with 24 points on 23 goals and one assist.

Junior midfielder Kelsey Perselay (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) leads the squad with 31 draw controls, while senior defender Casey McGowan (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) has picked up a team-best 26 ground balls. Devine has also posted 24 caused turnovers on the defensive end of the field.

Sophomore goalkeeper Maddy Fisher (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) has seen a majority of the minutes in the cage with 88 saves to her credit.

Senior Macie Hauck and junior Rachel Schwaab scored three goals apiece in helping lead Temple lacrosse to a decisive, 16-3 road win at Cincinnati on Sunday afternoon. The Owls controlled the offense all game long with 38 total shots to the Bearcats' six.

Schwaab totaled six points for the game, adding three assists to her three goals. The hat trick was her first of the season and fifth of her career. It was the first career hat trick for Hauck, who also recorded one assist in the win. In total, 11 players scored for Temple.

Georgetown is 2-4 all-time against the Owls and 2-2 at home. Last season, the Hoyas won 13-6 at Multi-Sport Field. Attacker Corinne Etchison (Eldersburg, Md./McDonogh School) led the way tying her career high with four goals and one assist. After scoring her first two goals of the season in the game prior, Bandos doubled that with four goals on the afternoon.

The Class of 2015 has had an impressive career on the Hilltop. The group has combined for 39 victories as well as 22 in BIG EAST Conference play. With these seniors, Georgetown has earned two NCAA Tournament berths, including a trip to the second round in 2014, and will have appeared in four BIG EAST Tournaments advancing to the championship game on two occasions. The group has played in 382 games with 233 starts to their credit. They have scored 155 goals and 68 assists totaling 223 points over four years. The student-athletes have also tallied 341 ground balls, 208 caused turnovers and 164 draw controls.

The opening draw is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Multi-Sport Field. Live stats and a webcast will be available through www.GUHoyas.com.
