Softball Wraps Up Regular Season Play at Seton Hall

May 1, 2015

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown softball team will conclude the 2015 regular season this weekend as they travel to South Orange, N.J., for a three-game series versus the Seton Hall Pirates. The Hoyas will play a doubleheader on Saturday, May 2 with first pitch scheduled for noon. The series will wrap up on Sunday at noon.

The Hoyas (14-30, 4-12 BIG EAST) are looking to end the season with a BIG EAST series win after Providence took two-of-three over senior and alumni weekend. After dropping the first game, 7-3, four different members of the squad recorded multi-hit games as GU would win the second game by an 8-2 final. Sunday's meeting saw Providence triumph 7-3.

Gabriela Elvina (Edison, N.J./Bishop George Ahr), Megan Hyson (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake), Theresa Kane (Mystic, Conn./Stonington) and Delaney Osterday (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc) combined for 20 hits over the weekend and are all riding three-game hitting streaks going into the series with the Pirates.

Kane leads the team in batting average at .281 and she also has a team-high 39 hits. In addition to leading the team in hits, the freshman - who has started all 44 games for the Blue & Gray this season - has scored a team-best 28 runs. Kane is 18-of-24 in stolen bases which is second in the conference.

Hyson is hitting at a .252 clip with 21 runs scored and 20 RBI, which are both second on the team, and 32 hits. The senior has also seen action in the circle for the Hoyas, pitching 160.2 innings and amassing an ERA of 3.44 to go with 167 strikeouts. Her strikeout count is second in the BIG EAST.

Elvina has come alive recently for the Hoyas. The sophomore has recorded at least one hit in nine of GU's last 14 games. On the season, she has 24 hits and is batting .238 and has an on-base percentage of .350 with a slugging percentage of .366.

Seton Hall currently sits at 22-26 overall and holds a record of 8-9 in BIG EAST play. GU swept Seton Hall last season at Guy Mason Field, outscoring the Pirates 16-1 over the weekend. The Pirates own the all-time advantage, however, with a record of 10-5 against the Hoyas.

The Pirates are led by Alexis Walkden who is hitting .380 with 52 hits, 20 homeruns and 49 RBI. She carries a slugging percentage of .891 and an on-base percentage of .444. Lauren Fischer and Danielle Destaso have split pitching duties for Seton hall with Destaso amassing 122 strikeouts over 134.1 innings pitched. Fischer has struck out 49 in her 132 innings of work in the circle.
