May 6, 2015 WASHINGTON - Georgetown University Head Coach Shannon Soares announced the 2015 field hockey captains. Seniors Emily Weinberg (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Hathaway Brown), Louise Chakejian (Chester Springs, Pa./Villa Maria) and Taylor Craig (New Canaan, Conn./Choate Rosemary Hall) were awarded with the honor. This is the second-straight season Weinberg and Chakejian are serving as team captains.
The student-athletes were selected following a unique selection program that includes submission of a resume, cover letter, letters of reference and a written statement. Following completion of the application process, the candidates were then granted an in-person interview with the coaching and support staff. The committee then chose the best fit individuals for the role of captain, regardless of the number of qualified athletes.
"Firstly, congratulations to Emily, Louise and Taylor on their leadership roles for the 2015 season," Soares said. "All three individuals have great vision and passion for this program and its future. They have a `team-first' approach to everything they do and an unparalleled commitment to their teammates. I'm very much looking forward to working closely with them this season and helping to aid in their continued development as leaders."
In addition to the 2015 captains, Soares has named four individuals considered to be "emerging leaders" to the teams Leadership Council. The individuals are juniors Molly Thompson (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Pioneer), Maria McDonald (Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh) and Devin Holmes (Fleetville, Pa./Wyoming Seminary) and sophomore Megan Parsons (Chester Springs, Pa./Villa Maria).
"Molly, Maria, Devin and Megan will compromise our Leadership Council for the 2015 season. There's no better way to describe these young women than `emerging leaders,'" Soares said. "Each of them has worked hard to find their voice and leadership style over the last year and have done so while gaining the respect of their peers and this staff. I look forward to a year of growth for these four and thank our entire internal leadership team for their service."
