Field Hockey's Skonecki and Holmes Earn BIG EAST Weekly Honors

Sept. 14, 2015

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Georgetown field hockey goalkeeper Rachel Skonecki (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Red Land) has been named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week, while defender Devin Holmes (Fleetville, Pa. / Wyoming Seminary) was selected to the honor roll, as announced by the conference office on Monday.

Anchoring the Hoyas' defense, Skonecki helped stop 14 penalty corners and totaled eight saves over 83 minutes in Georgetown's 1-0 shutout over VCU. Her save percentage (.900) is tops in the BIG EAST. This is junior's first honor this season.

Holmes garnered honor roll accolades after outmaneuvering the VCU goalkeeper in overtime on a penalty stroke to extend the Hoyas' winning streak to three games, their longest since 2001. The honor is the junior's second on the year making her the first Hoya since Sarah Butterfield (Bridgewater, N.J. / Oak Knoll) in 2013 to be recognized twice in a season.

Overall, the Hoyas have collected four BIG EAST honors this season, the most since 2010.

The Hoyas will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 19, as they travel to Pennsylvania to match up against Lock Haven at 2 p.m.
