WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Georgetown field hockey (5-4) team garnered its fifth win of the season and its fourth straight victory at home overpowering the Siena Saints, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon at Multi-Sport Field. The Hoyas led the Saints with an 8-5 shot margin and held a 7-3 advantage in penalty corners throughout the game.

Leading Georgetown's offensive attack were freshman Helena Masiello (East Greenbush, N.Y./Columbia High School) and sophomore Megan Parsons (Chester Springs, Pa./Villa Maria), who each put up their second goal of the season in the GU victory.

The Hoyas offense was active all game with senior Emily Weinberg (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Hathaway Brown) taking two shots and seniors Sarah Butterfield (Bridgewater, N.J./Oak Knoll), Callie Hiner (Westport, Conn./Staples) and junior Aliyah Graves-Brown (Harrisburg, Pa./Harrisburg Academy) with a shot apiece.

Masiello started the scoring for the Hoyas at the 14:55 mark. She scored on Saints' goalkeeper, Mary Drabich, with a shot from the right corner.

The Saints had a chance to tie the game 10 minutes into the second half when they were awarded three-consecutive penalty corners, but a strong GU defense kept Siena from capitalizing on the opportunities.

Parsons added the insurance goal for the Hoyas at the 54:16 mark when she deflected the ball into the cage off a Butterfield shot from the top right of the circle that was set up by a penalty corner from Molly Thompson (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Pioneer). The rest of the half looked to be a defensive effort, as neither team could put the ball in the cage and the game ended in favor of Georgetown.

Junior keeper Rachel Skonecki (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Red Land) picked up the win and played all 70 minutes in goal for the Hoyas. Drabich was in the net for the Saints for 59 minutes and finished the game with one save while Danielle DeGroot played the remaining 11 minutes of the game.

The Blue & Gray will be back in action on Friday when they travel to Providence, Rhode Island to open BIG EAST action against Providence at 5 p.m. The Hoyas will round out the weekend with a match up against Brown on Sunday, Oct. 4, at noon.
