Oct. 14, 2016 WASHINGTON - Georgetown University sophomore women's golfers Christina Parsells (Bernardsville, N.J./Kent Place) and Alexa Popowitz (Boca Raton, Fla./St. Andrew's) were named BIG EAST Golfers of the Week on Thursday.
Parsells and Popowitz helped the Hoyas finish in fourth place among 18 teams in a competitive field at the Ron Moore Women's Intercollegiate, hosted by the University of Denver last weekend. The sophomore duo led the Hoyas, tying for 12th place at 1-over par 217.
Parsells shot a school record 5-under par 67 in the final round, bettering the Georgetown single-round record of 68, set by Chelsea Curtis at the 2008 East Carolina Lady Pirate Invitational. Parsells made two eagles, hit a hole-in-one on the 17th and then eagled the 18th hole to close out her record-setting round.
Popowitz, who shot a 2-under par 70 in the first round, finished with an even par 72 in Sunday's final round.
The sophomores helped the Hoyas set a school record for a team single-round score with a 3-under par 285 in last Sunday's final round. It eclipsed the record of 288 the team had set just one week prior at the Princeton Invitational.
Overall, Georgetown shot a 10-over par 874 at the Ron Moore Women's Intercollegiate, setting a school record for a 54-hole event, and breaking the mark of 894 set at the ORU/SFA Spring Break Invite in 2016.
Georgetown is back in action next on Saturday, Oct. 22, competing at the Lehigh Fall Invitational.
