Hoyas Swept at Old Dominion

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University swimming & diving was swept in a dual meet on Saturday afternoon at Old Dominion. The Hoya women fell to the Monarchs, 162-137, while the GU men lost, 172-126. Racing took place at ODU's Swimming and Diving Facility.

Women
The Hoyas took the top four spots in 1-meter diving to open the meet. Elizabeth Miller (Wayland, Mass./Wayland) pulled away with 278.70 points to place first while Jennifer Sullivan (Hanover, Mass./Notre Dame Academy), Sarah Jaklitsch (Hingham, Mass./Notre Dame Academy) and Rebecca Cox (Atlanta, Ga./George Walton Comprehensive) followed her in second, third and fourth, respectively. In 3-meter diving, Jaklitsch won with a score of 271.72 points, while Miller and Sullivan were second and third, respectively.

Molly Fitzpatrick (Manchester, N.H./The Derryfield School) came back to win the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:20.31. She also finished third in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:06.69.

Cristina Barrett (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) and Carrie Bonfield (Skillman, N.J./The Pennington School) placed first and second, respectively, in the 1,000-yard freestyle. Barrett touched the wall in 10:28.20, while Bonfield was right behind her in 10:30.99. Barrett also won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:10.54. Christine Ryan (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) finished third in 5:12.59.

In the 100-yard butterfly, Molly Gaynor (Scotch Plains, N.J./Mount Saint Mary Academy) and Kelleigh Haley (Potomac, Md.) swept the top two spots and were separated by just three-hundredths of a second. Gaynor outstretched Haley in a time of 58.21. Gaynor also placed fourth in the 100-yard backstroke while Abigail Lake (Norwood, Mass./Ursuline Academy) was third in 1:01.92.

Morgan Conley (Winnetka, Ill./Chatham/New Trier School [N.J.]) and Haley placed first and second, respectively, in the 50-yard freestyle. Conley broke the 24-second mark with a time of 23.95, while Haley just beat an ODU swimmer to the wall by two-hundredths of a second, finishing in 24.63 seconds.

In the 200-yard butterfly, Annie Valentine (Dearborn, Mich./Farmington Hills Mercy) earned points with a second-place finish, touching the wall in 2:09.11.

Men
Georgetown swept 1-meter diving with Jared Cooper-Vespa (Orange, Conn./The Hopkins School) winning with a score of 299.85 points. Ryan Blom (Hershey, Pa./Milton Hershey) was right behind him 293.70 points while Griffin Edmonds (Norwalk, Conn./New Canaan) was third. Blom also took second in 3-meter diving, while Cooper-Vespa was third.

In the 200-yard butterfly, Justin Summers (Weston, Conn./Weston) and Terry Johnson (Carmichael, Calif./Jesuit) placed first and third, respectively. Summers touched the wall first in 1:55.96 to win by more than two seconds, while Johnson finished in 1:58.64.

Martin Vanin (Cali, Colombia/Colegio Bolivar) won the 100-yard butterfly by nearly a full second with a time of 51.27. Summers placed third in 52.22.

Jacob Kohloff (Tega Clay, N.C./Fort Mill) placed second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:45.21. He also took third in the 500-yard freestyle, finishing in 4:51.64.

Henry Hollinshead (Raleigh, N.C./Green Hope) and Edward Spinelli (Brooklyn, N.Y./Polytech Prep Country Day School) finished second and third, respectively, in the 100-yard backstroke. Hollinshead touched the wall in 53.08 while Spinelli was just 12-hundredths of a second behind in 53.20. Hollinshead was also second in the 200-yard backstroke, in 1:54.03.

In the 200-yard IM, Arthur Wang (Wilmington, Del./Charter School of Wilmington) placed second with a time of 1:57.25 while Evan Grey (Williston, Vt./Champlain Valley Union) was third in 1:58.30.

Wang placed third in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 58.75. Emmanuel Emovon (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) was also third in the 50-yard freestyle, finishing in 22.24 seconds and Samuel Delise (Redding, Conn./Joel Barlow) took third in the 200-yard breaststroke, touching the wall in 2:13.67.

The quartet of Jack Calderwood (Houston, Texas/Strake Jesuit College Prep), David Chung (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough), Johnson and Kohloff won the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:14.47, defeating another GU squad by less than a half second. The team of Chandler Hinson (Chattanooga, Tenn./The Baylor School), Vanin, Emovon and Henry Rogatz (Wilmington, Del./Charter School of Wilmington) finished second in 3:15.84.

The Hoyas will return to the pool after the Thanksgiving Break, traveling to Lewisburg, Pa., Dec. 2-4, for the Bucknell Invitational.
