Georgetown Closes Out Nonconference Play Against Alabama

Dec. 10, 2016

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's basketball team will finish out nonconference play on Sunday against the University of Alabama Crimson Tide at 2 p.m., at McDonough Arena. The Hoyas are currently 7-2 on the season and have won their last six games, while Alabama is 7-0 on the season but Sunday will be the first game away from home for the Crimson Tide.

On Thursday, the Hoyas returned home and continued their winning ways with a 69-56 victory over the George Mason University Patriots at McDonough Arena. It was GU's first home game since Nov. 11. Junior guard Dorothy Adomako (Midlothian, Va./Cosby) led the way for the Hoyas, tying her career high with 25 points and posting eight rebounds. Senior forward Faith Woodard (Brandon, Fla./Freedom) managed her fourth double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 boards. Both Adomako and Woodard went 3-for-4 from beyond the arc. Rounding out those in double figures was sophomore guard Dionna White (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill), who scored 14 points and tallied five assists.

The Hoyas pulled down 43 rebounds to George Mason's 36, and shot 41.5 percent (27-of-65) from the field, while the Patriots shot 35.0 percent (21-for-60) from the field. Georgetown forced 16 turnovers on nine steals, but committed 17 turnovers in the contest.

Woodard is currently leading the squad in points and rebounds with 15.8 ppg and 9.2 rpg. She also has four double-doubles on the season. White is second on the team with 15.6 ppg as well as 5.0 rpg and a squad-high 35 steals which ranks her third in the nation. Adomako rounds out those in double figures with 14.9 ppg, 7.8 rpg and a pair of double-doubles to her credit.

Georgetown holds a +6.6 rebounding margin over opponents, shooting 38.8 percent on the season and averaging 9.9 steals per game. The Hoyas are currently 2-0 at home.

On Wednesday, the NCAA released its first RPI rankings of the season and the Hoyas were ranked No. 3 nationally behind Notre Dame and Connecticut. Georgetown is ranked first in the conference with DePaul sitting at No. 5.

Junior Hannah Cook drained a 3-pointer at the end of regulation to tie the game, and Alabama went on to outscore Kansas by six in overtime to beat the Jayhawks, 71-65, in women's basketball action Sunday in Coleman Coliseum. The Crimson Tide is now 7-0 for the first time since the 2000-01 season.

Junior Quanetria Bolton led Alabama with 18 points and nine rebounds, while fellow juniors Meoshonti Knight and Cook added 17 and 10 points, respectively.

Knight leads the team in scoring averaging 13.9 ppg. Shaquera Wade is averaging 12.0 ppg and a team-best 7.1 rpg. Cook rounds out the top three with 11.3 ppg.

The Hoyas are 0-2 all-time against Alabama, Sunday will be their first meeting in Washington, D.C.
