WASHINGTON -
With strong performances by Jacksonville pitcher Victoria Brown, the Hoyas managed to score one run but were kept under control for the majority of the 9-1 loss to the Dolphins in Georgetown's last game in the Dolphin Invitational on Sunday afternoon.
For the second time this weekend, Georgetown was the first to put a run on the board. Sophomore Theresa Kane (Mystic, Conn./Stonington) made her way around the bases after she walked to first and advanced on three-consecutive wild pitches to give the Hoyas the early 1-0 lead.
Jacksonville responded with an immediate pitcher change, bringing in Brown, who ultimately only gave up one hit in 16 batters faced.
JU tied the game in the bottom of the first while both teams went scoreless in the second inning.
Limiting Georgetown to only three batters in the top of the third, Jacksonville gained the lead in the bottom of the inning with a grand slam to left-field. Sustaining the momentum, a Jacksonville double to left center helped drive in three more runs in the bottom of the fourth. One more run was scored in the fifth inning to give Jacksonville nine runs on the day.
Taylor Henry (Front Royal, Va./Skyline) registered the lone hit for the Hoyas and Delaney Osterday (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc) and Samantha Giovanniello (Floral Park, N.Y./Floral Park Memorial) shared time on the mound, combining for 30 batters faced and three strikeouts.
The Hoyas are in action next weekend when the squad travels to Chapel Hill, N.C. to match up against IUPUI, Fairfield and North Carolina in the UNC Chapel Hill Tournament.
