Hoyas Fall to St. John's

Feb. 27, 2016

The Georgetown University women's tennis team (2-3) fell, 5-2, against St. John's in its second BIG EAST match of the season on Friday afternoon.

Georgetown saw a strong performance from power duo, Victoire Saperstein (Las Vegas, Nev./Odyssey Charter School) and Risa Nakagawa (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif./Palos Verdes Peninsula). Playing at the No. 1 spot, the pair outplayed St. John's Natallia Vavulina and Zofia Stanisz, 6-3, but the doubles point went to the Red Storm as they clinched the No. 2 and 3 spots.

St. John's cushioned its lead, claiming four singles matches, but not without a fight from the Hoyas first.

After winning her doubles match, Nakagawa rallied back to defeat Irina Preotescu 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 at No. 3 singles. Daphne de Chatellus (Tiburon, Calif./Redwood) followed with a rally of her own to win at the No. 5 spot. Saperstein also pushed her match into three sets but was unable to get past Vavulina at the No. 1 spot.

The next match for the Hoyas will be on the road against Point Loma Nazarene in San Diego, Calif.
