Georgetown Welcomes No. 16/19 Penn to Cooper Field

March 11, 2016

WASHINGTON -

For the first time in four weeks, the Georgetown University women's lacrosse squad (1-4) returns to Cooper Field to host No. 16/19 Penn on Saturday for a 3 p.m. contest. Georgetown is back at Cooper Field after a four-game road swing against nationally ranked Maryland, Princeton, Towson and Duke.

GU pushed past the No. 14/15 Duke Blue Devils, 10-9, in a midweek matchup on Wednesday afternoon in Koskinen Stadium. The win handed Georgetown its first victory of the season and snapped a two-game win streak for the Blue Devils

Senior midfielder Kristen Bandos (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame of Namur) paced the Hoyas with her second hat trick of the season, while attacker Morgan Rubin (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr School) and midfielders Francesca Whitehurst (Baltimore, Md./Roland Park Country School) and Georgia Tunney (Towson, Md./Notre Dame Prep) each had two goals.

Defensively, the Hoyas forced 10 Duke turnovers and claimed 16 ground balls to maintain control of the game. Maddy Fisher (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) and Megan McDonald split time in the cage, combining for nine saves.

Whitehurst leads the Blue & Gray in scoring with 12 points on seven goals and five assists. Corinne Etchison has managed four goals and six assists for 10 points, while Bandos comes in third with nine points off a team-best nine goals.

Bandos also leads the squad with eight draw controls, while McDonald has picked up a team-best nine ground balls. McDonald has seen a majority of the minutes in the cage with 21 saves to her credit.

Penn is looking to extend a three-game winning streak, with the most recent victory coming over Saint Joseph's, 12-6 on Tuesday. The Quakers won several statistical categories against the Hawks, including ground balls, draw controls and shots.

Penn is led offensively by duo Nina Corcoran and Iris Williamson. Corcoran has nine goals and 15 assists on the season for a team-best 24 points while Williamson leads the Quakers with 13 goals. Corcoran's 3.00 assists per game rank her first in the Ivy League and third nationally.

Georgetown is 1-2 all-time against the Quakers with the series beginning in 2012. Saturday's match up will be the first meeting on GU's home turf. Last season, Georgetown lost, 15-8, to then-No.13/13 Penn at Franklin Field.

The opening draw is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Cooper Field. Live stats and a webcast will be available through www.GUHoyas.com.
