Georgetown to Travel to George Mason on Wednesday

March 15, 2016

WASHINGTON -

The Georgetown University women's lacrosse squad will make the short drive Wednesday to George Mason University where the Hoyas will face the Patriots at 6 p.m., at George Mason Stadium.

Last week, GU defeated No.14/15 Duke in a 10-9 thriller before falling to No. 16/19 Penn, 15-8. Georgetown's victory over the Blue Devils marked the Hoyas third win over the Blue Devils under Head Coach Ricky Fried. In the game, Georgetown featured four players with multiple goals on the day to collect its first win of the season. Senior midfielder Kristen Bandos (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame of Namur) led the Blue & Gray with her second hat trick of the season while the GU defense played aggressive, forcing 10 Duke turnovers and claiming 16 ground balls to maintain control of the game.

Bandos continued to pace the Georgetown attack against Penn with three goals while freshman attacker Taylor Gebhardt (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) added two. The Hoyas were outshot, 26-22, but had 17 draw controls to the Quakers' eight.

For her efforts over the past week, Bandos was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll on Tuesday. It marked her first weekly award of the season and the second for the Hoyas this year.

George Mason heads into the contest after picking up a 12-5 victory over Fresno State on Friday in a neutral-site contest in Eugene, Ore. Jacquelyn Spalding led the way with a season-high four goals and two assists and freshman Elizabeth Benedetto made her first career start, making nine saves. Overall the Patriots are 2-1on the season and 1-0 at home.

The matchup also marks the return of former Mason standout Meg Dentler, now in her fourth season as an assistant coach at Georgetown. Dentler was a two-time All-America goalkeeper for the Patriots and was named the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year in 2005. The four-time all-conference selection set school records for saves in a season (225 in 2002) and in a career (855). She also holds the program record for most wins by a goalkeeper with 31.

Georgetown holds a 12-0 all-time record over the Patriots. Last season, GU hung on to down George Mason, 11-9, at Cooper Field. Corinne Etchison (Eldersburg, Md./McDonogh School) and junior midfielder both led the Hoyas with three goals apiece.

The game is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m., at George Mason Stadium. Live stats will be available at www.GUHoyas.com.
