The Georgetown University women's lacrosse squad (2-5) will host the No.19 John Hopkins Blue Jays (6-3) on Saturday, March 19 at Cooper Field in a 1 p.m. matchup. The game will be the 18th meeting between the two programs, with the teams splitting the all-time record evenly at nine wins apiece.
The Hoyas are coming off of a 15-12 victory over George Mason earlier this week, where senior attacker Corinne Etchison (Eldersburg, Md./McDonogh School) and freshman attacker Taylor Gebhardt (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) led the Hoyas with four goals apiece, Gebhardt also managed two assists.
Kelsey Perselay (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) added two goals, while seniors Kristen Bandos (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame of Namur) and Natalie Miller (Wayne, Pa./Radnor), graduate student Morgan Rubin (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr School) and freshmen Francesca Whitehurst (altimore, Md./Roland Park Country School) and Morgan Ryan (Maplewood, N.J./Oak Knoll School) each tallied a goal.
The Blue & Gray outshot the Patriots, 24-21 and clinched 17 draw controls to George Mason's 11. GMU held a slight advantage in ground balls, 15-13, but the Hoyas earned nine free-position shots to the Patriots' three.
Senior goalkeeper Megan McDonald (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) earned the win in the cage with two saves in the contest. Junior goalkeeper Maddy Fisher (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) played for 30 minutes and posted four saves.
Etchison and freshman Francesca Whitehurst (Baltimore, Md./Roland Park Country School) are leading the Blue & Gray in scoring with nine goals and six assists each. Senior Kristen Bandos (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame of Namur) follows with 14 points with a squad-high 13 goals and one assist on the season. Gebhardt has tallied 13 points on seven goals and six assists to round out the top four.
Bandos leads the Hoyas with 16 draw controls, while McDonald has picked up a team-best 10 ground balls. Senior Annie Heagerty paces GU with seven caused turnovers on the defensive end of the field.
Fisher has seen a majority of the minutes in the cage with 21 saves to her credit.
John Hopkins enters the match up after earning its first win at Vanderbilt since 2005. The Blue Jays 12-11 victory saw a hat trick and a school-record 10 draws from senior Dene' DiMartino. The senior leads JHU ranks 12th in the nation with 5.67 draws per game. She also paces the John Hopkins offense with 20 goals and seven assists for 27 points on the season.
Georgetown and John Hopkins meet for the 18th time in a series that began in 1977. The series is tied at 9-9. Hopkins won the last meeting, 8-6, at Homewood Field in 2015, but the Hoyas hold a 5-4 advantage over the Blue Jays at Cooper Field.
