The Georgetown University field hockey team earned the 2015 ZAG Field Hockey/NFHCA Collegiate National Academic Team Award, while also having 12 student-athletes selected to the NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad, when honors were announced on Tuesday morning.
The Hoyas earned the team honor after being one of 68 Division I programs with a team grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better during the fall semester. This is the ninth consecutive season that the Blue & Gray have been recognized.
The NFHCA National Academic Squad recognizes student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2015-16 academic year. Seniors Taylor Craig (New Canaan, Conn./Choate Rosemary Hall) and Callie Hiner (Westport, Conn./Staples) were both selected to the team for the fourth time during their careers on the Hilltop.
Senior Louise Chakejian (Chester Springs, Pa./The Episcopal Academy) was selected the all-academic squad for the third consecutive season.
Juniors Aliyah Graves-Brown (Harrisburg, Pa./Harrisburg Academy), Devin Holmes (Fleetville, Pa./Wyoming Seminary), Maria McDonald (Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh), Rachel Skonecki (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Red Land) and Molly Thompson (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Pioneer) join Chakejian on the team as three-year selections.
Sophomore Mackenzie Schneider (Norfolk, Va./Maury) makes the list for the second-consecutive season, while freshmen Helena Masiello (East Greenbush, N.Y./Columbia High School), Hannah Sargent (Malvern, Pa./Germantown Academy) and Chloe Verwiel (New Hope, Pa./New Hope-Solebury) were also named to the Division I National Academic Squad.
