March 8, 2016 WASHINGTON -
For the fourth time this season, the Georgetown University women's lacrosse squad (0-4) will square off against a top-25 opponent as it travels to No. 14/15 Duke University (4-3) on Wednesday for a 3 p.m. matchup at Koskinen Stadium against the Blue Devils. Live and streaming for the game will be available at www.guhoyas.com. It is the final contest in a four-game road swing Blue & Gray.
Last Saturday, Georgetown fell just short Saturday afternoon, 8-7, in the team's fourth game of the season against the Towson Tigers (5-0) at Johnny Unitas Stadium. After a back-and-forth battle, the Hoyas couldn't find the answer in the closing minutes.
Attacker Morgan Rubin (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr School) and midfielder Kristen Bandos (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame of Namur) led the way with two goals each, while midfielders Morgan Ryan (Maplewood, N.J./Oak Knoll School) and Hannah Seibel (Hanover, N.H./Hanover) and attacker Kate Snouffer (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr School) each registered a goal. Attacker Corinne Etchison (Eldersburg, Md./McDonogh School) topped the Hoyas with two assists.
The Blue & Gray claimed 10 draw controls to Towson's seven and forced nine Tiger turnovers, but was outshot by Towson, 19 to 13. Senior Megan McDonald (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) and junior Maddy Fisher (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) split time in the cage, with each playing one half, but McDonald took the loss in the cage with two saves to her credit.
Duke is coming off of a strong defensive performance that featured six different goal scorers to dispatch Virginia Tech, 13-4 on Saturday, March 5. The Blue Devils are led by Kyra Harney with 36 points on 19 goals and eight assists. Oliva Jenner leads Duke with 42 draw controls in seven contests. In the cage, Kelsey Duryea has registered a 7.25 goals-against average and 64 saves. Overall, the Blue Devils are outscoring opponents 11.71-7.43 and are 2-2 this season in Koskinen Stadium.
Georgetown and Duke have faced off each season since 1996. The Hoyas are 8-15 against the Blue Devils. Last year, GU lost, 12-4, to then-No. 4/3 Duke at Cooper Field. Senior attacker Caroline Tarzian (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) led the Hoyas with two goals, while freshman midfielder Hannah Seibel (Hanover, N.H./Hanover) and senior midfielder Lauren Schwalje (Setauket, N.Y./St. Anthony's) scored a goal apiece.
