Georgetown Hosts Villanova for Midweek Matchup

The Georgetown University women's lacrosse squad (3-8, 1-1 BIG EAST) matches up with its first of two BIG EAST Conference opponents this week when it hosts the Villanova University Wildcats (3-10, 1-2 BIG EAST) on Wednesday afternoon at Cooper Field. Opening draw is scheduled for 7 p.m., with live stats and broadcast available at www.guhoyas.com.

The Hoyas are looking to bounce back from a 14-7 loss to the No. 2/2 University of Florida Gators on Saturday at Cooper Field. Senior attacker Corinne Etchison (Eldersburg, Md./McDonogh School) led the way with two goals and one assist, while sophomore midfielder Hannah Seibel (Hanover, N.H./Hanover) added one goal and one assist.

The Hoyas were outshot, 30-22, and pulled in 11 draw controls to Florida's 12. Both teams committed 14 turnovers and the Blue & Gray went 2-for-5 on free position attempts. The three Florida keepers combined for 12 saves, while the two GU keepers managed six.

Overall, Etchison leads Georgetown in scoring with 22 points on 13 goals and nine assists. Senior midfielder Kristen Bandos (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame of Namur) follows close behind with 21 points on a team-best 19 goals and two assists. Freshmen Taylor Gebhardt (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) and Francesca Whitehurst (Baltimore, Md./Roland Park Country School) have each added 20 points apiece on 13 goals and seven assists.

Bandos also leads the squad with 28 draw controls, while Whitehurst has picked up a team-best 16 ground balls. Senior defender Annie Heagerty (Huntington Bay, N.Y./St. Anthony's) has posted seven caused turnovers, while Bandos, Whitehurst, Jenny Schwalje (Setauket, N.Y./St. Anthony's) and senior defender Kassandra Bowling (Monkton, Md./Bryn Mawr School) follow with six apiece.

Junior Maddy Fisher (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) and senior Megan McDonald (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) have shared the time in goal with 10 appearances each this season. Starting for the Hoyas, Fisher has recorded 32 saves in 323:36 minutes played while McDonald has secured 39 saves in 336:24 minutes.

The Wildcats are looking to extend their momentum from an 11-5 conference win over Cincinnati this weekend. Senior midfielder Chelsey Henderson paced Villanova's offense with three goals while sophomore goalkeeper Julia Michael registered 14 saves in the second half to tie her career high with 15 on the day.

Georgetown is 13-5 against the Wildcats, having won the last 12 meetings. Last season, GU defeated Villanova, 9-5. Etchison tallied two goals and one assist in the game while Bandos managed two goals.The Georgetown victory handed VU its first conference loss of the season and snapped a five-game home win streak for the `Cats.
