Georgetown Travels to Cincinnati for Noon Matchup

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's lacrosse squad (4-8, 2-1BIG EAST) will continue BIG EAST Conference play this weekend with a matchup against the Cincinnati Bearcats (4-9, 0-3 BIG EAST) on Saturday at Gettler Stadium. Opening draw is set for noon with live stats and broadcast available www.guhoyas.com.

On Wednesday, the Hoyas captured their second conference victory with an 18-7 performance over the Villanova University Wildcats at Cooper Field.

Senior attacker Kelsey Perselay (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) led the way with four goals and one assist, while junior attacker Colleen Lovett (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) added three goals and two assists. It was a total team effort with 11 different Hoyas tallying a point.

The Hoyas outshot the 'Cats, 34-20, and both teams pulled in 13 draw controls apiece. The defense was outstanding as Villanova committed 14 turnovers and the Blue & Gray went 5-for-8 on free position attempts. The two GU keepers combined for 10 saves in the game.

Overall, senior attacker Corinne Etchison leads Georgetown in scoring with 25 points on 15 goals and 10 assists. Senior midfielder Kristen Bandos (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame of Namur) follows close behind with 24 points on a team-best 21 goals and three assists. Freshmen Francesca Whitehurst (Baltimore, Md./Roland Park Country School) has added 22 points on 15 goals and seven assists. Bandos also leads the squad with 31 draw controls, while Whitehurst has picked up a team-best 17 ground balls. Senior defender Kassandra Bowling (Monkton, Md./Bryn Mawr School) has tallied a team-leading 10 ground balls including four against Villanova earlier this week.

Junior Maddy Fisher (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) and senior Megan McDonald (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) have shared the time in goal with 10 appearances each this season. Starting for the Hoyas, Fisher has recorded 38 saves in 353:36 minutes played while McDonald has secured 43 saves in 366:24 minutes.

Cincinnati enters the weekend after dropping a midweek conference contest at Vanderbilt on Wednesday afternoon, falling to the Commodores, 13-3. The Bearcats three goals were locked in by Courtney Curtis, Amanda Donovan and Katie Stegmann. Overall, CU is paced by Megan Bell with 34 points on 21 goals and 13 assists. Curtis follows with 25 points on 19 goals and six assists. Meg Gulmi has seen the most time in the cage for the Bearcats recording 100 saves and a 4-9 record in 739:28 played.

The Blue & Gray holds a 7-0 all-time series advantage over CU since 2009. Last season, Georgetown used a big first half to down the Bearcats 8-4, as GU scored seven of its eight goals in the first to make it two in a row for the Blue & Gray.
