The Georgetown University softball team (8-29, 2-9 BIG EAST) is rounding out a five-game home stint with a District matchup against the George Washington Colonials at Guy Mason Field on Wednesday afternoon. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. with live stats available at www.guhoyas.com
The Georgetown University softball team went 1-2 against Seton Hall this weekend in BIG EAST play. The Hoyas fell to the Pirates in games one and three, but outplayed Seton Hall, 6-5, in game two of the series. GU's win gave junior Delaney Osterday (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc) her second victory in the circle this season as the junior allowed five runs, three earned, on 10 hits over 7.0 innings. At the plate, senior Taylor Henry (Front Royal, Va./Skyline) drove in two runs off two hits. The Hoyas will round out conference with road matchups against Villanova and Providence and a home series against Butler.
Senior Samantha Giovanniello (Floral Park, N.Y./Floral Park Memorial) continues to pace the Hoyas with a .342 average while sophomore Theresa Kane (Mystic, Conn./Stonington) has driven in a team-best 38 runs. Giovanniello also leads the team with 38 hits, a 12-game hitting streak and six homeruns on the season
George Washington is currently on a two-game winning streak, defeating Rhode Island 2-1 in a three-game series. Standing at 20-20 overall, the Colonials are paced by Megan Linn with a .386 batting average, 33 runs and 49 hits. In the circle, Sarah Costlow leads the GW with a 2.40 ERA over 25 appearances and 21 starts. She holds opponents to a .266 batting average.
GU and GW are tied 4-4 in the all-time series. George Washington tied the series last year with 4-2 win in Colonial territory.
