WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's lacrosse team (1-9, 0-2 BIG EAST) could not keep pace with No. 4 Denver's high-powered offense, as the Hoyas fell, 17-4, on Saturday afternoon at Cooper Field in front of a CBS Sports Network audience.

Graduate student midfielder Joe Bucci (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca) had one goal and one assist, while sophomore midfielder Peter Tagliaferri (Danville, Calif./San Ramon Valley) went 6-for-9 at the faceoff X with two ground balls. Denver controlled play in the first quarter scoring the first five goals, before Bucci scored an unassisted goal at the 2:53 mark in the first quarter. The Pioneers added one more goal with just under two minutes to play in the first frame to take a 6-1 lead into the second quarter.

The Pioneers added two more goals in the second quarter, as GU's best scoring opportunities of the quarter glanced off the pipe, sending the Hoyas into halftime trailing 8-1. Sophomore goalie Nick Marrocco (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) made seven saves in the first half.

Freshman attack Chris Donovan (Morristown, N.J./The Hun School) scored first in the third quarter at the 10:25 mark, but Denver tacked on two more goals, before junior midfielder Eduardo White (Littleton, Colo./Kent Denver) scored on an assist from Bucci to make the score 10-3 midway through the quarter.

The Hoyas went 5-for-6 on faceoffs in the fourth quarter behind the play of Tagliaferri, but Denver scored the first three goals of the quarter. Freshman midfielder Daniel Bucaro (East Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) ended a six-goal Pioneer run, scoring on the assist from junior midfielder Devon Lewis (Orlando, Fla./Lake Highland Prep), making the score 16-4.
