Women's Golf Hosts Hoya Invitational at Four Streams Monday and Tuesday

April 3, 2016

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's golf team will begin play in the 11th Annual Hoya Invitational on Monday morning at Four Streams golf course in Beallsville, Md.

The Hoyas will host eight other schools at the invitational, including as Boston University, Marshall, Monmouth, Princeton, Quinnipiac, Seton Hall, St. John's and Towson.

The tournament, which starts on Monday, April 4 and concludes on Tuesday, April 4, will be played at Four Streams, a course designed by PGA Tour veteran Nick Price and famed golf architect Steve Smyers. The par-72, 6,127-yard course, the home for the Georgetown University men's and women's programs, is set amidst the rolling Maryland farmland and is one of Maryland's finest golf facilities.

The 9-team field will tee off on Monday morning at 9 a.m. and play 36 holes, with the final 18 holes starting on Tuesday at 9 a.m. A practice round will be held on Sunday, March 29.

Last year, three Georgetown golfers finished among the top-10 and four finished among the top-20 as the Hoyas posted consistent scores over three rounds en route to an eight shot win at the Hoya Invitational. The Hoyas finished atop the 13-team field with a 54-hole score of 77-over par 941, eight shots ahead of second place Marshall (85-over par 949). Then-freshman Jacquelyn Eleey (Quincy, Mass./The Taft School) led the field of 75 golfers after two rounds and finished the tournament in a tie at 14-over par 230 with Anna Kim of St. John's and Cristina Felip of Long Island University. Kim was crowned champion after a three-hole playoff.

The Hoyas are coming off a 12th place at the Henssler Financial Intercollegiate, hosted by Kennesaw State University at Pinetree Country Club in Georgia last week. Freshman Alexa Popowitz (Boca Raton, Fla./St. Andrew's) fired a team-best 3-over par 75 in the final round of play and was Georgetown's top finisher, tying for 35th place at 17-over par 233.

The Hoyas played a pair of tournaments during spring break in early March, finishing in a tie for seventh place at the Fresno State Classic on March 8 and then posting a tie for fourth place at the ORU/SFA Invite in Texas on April 15.

In California, the Blue & Gray shot a 13-over par 301 in the second round and finished in a tie for seventh place among 15 teams with a 36-hole score of 24-over par 600. Georgetown was led by Popowitz, who tied for 10th place at 3-over par 147, including a second round 4-over par 76. Eleey posted a team-best 2-over par 74 in the final round and tied for 25th place at 6-over par 150.

Playing in her hometown of Dallas, Texas for the first time in her collegiate career, senior Mackenzie Boydston (Keller, Texas/Nolan Catholic) tied for eighth place overall and the Hoyas finished in fourth place among 20 teams at the ORU/SFA Spring Break Invite. Georgetown fired a 10-over par 290 in the final round and finished in fourth place at 54-over par 894.
