WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's lacrosse squad (6-10, 4-3 BIG EAST) fell, 11-4, to the Temple University Owls (12-5, 4-3 BIG EAST) Saturday afternoon in a deciding BIG EAST Conference matchup. Despite the loss, the Hoyas earned a BIG EAST Championship berth and will be the fourth seed when the tournament begins on Thursday.

Freshmen Taylor Gebhardt (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) led the way with two goals and two assists for four points to lead the way. Graduate student Morgan Rubin (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr School) and junior attacker Kate Snouffer (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr School) also scored for the Blue & Gray.

The Hoyas were outshot by the Owls, 24-18, and had just seven draw controls to TU's 10. The defense forced nine Temple turnovers, but GU committed 13. The two GU keepers combined for eight saves in the game.

Georgetown opened the game with a goal from Gebhardt, but that momentum would be short lived as the Owls evened the score just nine seconds later. That goal sparked a 5-0 run as the Hoyas struggled to slow the offense early.

At 17:03, Rubin tallied her 15th goal of the season with Gebhardt assisting to stop the run.

Following the early goals, the game settled, but the damage had been done. Temple went on another tear with a 3-0 run before halftime as the Blue & Gray went into the break trailing 8-2.

The Owls came out and scored off of the opening draw to make it a 4-0 run spanning both halves. Gebhardt continued to be the lone bright spot for the Blue & Gray scoring her second of the game at the 28:55 mark.

Despite the goal, the advantage leaned to Temple with the Owls putting two more in the back of the cage to make it 11-3.

The final goal of the game came at the 9:12 mark as Gebhardt assisted on the play to Snouffer to make it 11-4. Both defenses slowed the game at that point as the time ticked down, eventually resulting in the 11-4 loss.

Despite the loss, the Hoyas earned the fourth seed in the championship due to the conference's tiebreaking procedure as Temple, Georgetown and Marquette all ended the season with a mark of 4-3 in BIG EAST play.

This is Georgetown's 10th-consecutive BIG EAST Championship berth. The Hoyas are the only team in the conference to have participated in every BIG EAST Championship since it began in 2007. GU has been to the championship game on six occasions, winning it in 2010.

The Blue & Gray will refocus for the postseason which will be held on the Hilltop. The BIG EAST Championship semifinal games are scheduled for Thursday, May 5 at Cooper Field. The fourth-seeded Hoyas will battle the top-seeded Gators from the University of Florida at 4:30 p.m., while the second-seeded University of Connecticut Huskies will face the third-seeded Owls at 7 p.m. Both games can be seen live on the BIG EAST Digital Network and live stats will be available at www.BIGEAST.com.

The championship is scheduled for Saturday, May 7 at Cooper Field at 2 p.m. It can be seen live on FOX Sports 2. Fans will be able to purchase tickets for all three games at the gate.
