May 3, 2016 WASHINGTON - Georgetown University men's lacrosse attackman Daniel Bucaro (East Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Year when major awards and all-conference honors were announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Bucaro, a two-time BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll selection, led the Hoyas with 31 points, while posting a team-high 13 assists in his first season on the Hilltop. Bucaro, who had five multi-goal games, finished second on the team with 18 goals, splitting time between attack and midfield. He was also voted onto the All-BIG EAST Second Team.
"I'm very proud of the effort Danny gave and how he continued to grow as a player this year," Head Coach Kevin Warne said. "We played him in different positions and asked him to do different things for us this year and he always responded to the challenge. He is very deserving of this honor."
Junior long stick middie Charlie Ford (San Carlos, Calif./St. Ignatius) was the lone Hoya selected All-BIG EAST First Team. This is his second all-conference nod, after earning second team honors following his sophomore season. Ford finished the season with 30 ground balls and nine caused turnovers, while splitting time between close defense and LSM.
Graduate student midfielder Joe Bucci (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca) joins Bucaro on the All-BIG EAST Second Team, after leading the Hoyas with 20 goals. The second-year captain added eight assists to finish second on the team with 28 points. Bucci started the season as a short stick defensive middie, before moving back to offense prior to Georgetown's win over No. 8 Hofstra. He posted career-high games with five goals against Hobart and Virginia.
"Joe has been a great leader and two-year captain for us, and I'm excited for him to earn this recognition," Warne said. "Charlie is another guy that we asked a lot from this season and I'm just proud of his effort and the work he put in."
