May 4, 2016 WASHINGTON - Four Georgetown University women's lacrosse players were named All-BIG EAST as announced by the league office on Wednesday. Two Hoyas were named to the first team, and two earned a spot on the second team. The Blue & Gray will open BIG EAST Championship play on Thursday afternoon at Cooper Field.
Senior midfielder Kristen Bandos (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame of Namur) earned a spot on the first team. Bandos is second on the squad in scoring with a team-best 26 goals and six assists for 32 points. She leads the team in draw controls with 38, and is tied for second in caused turnovers with 11.
Bandos is ranked among the all-time leaders in draw controls with 71, and is ranked in season draw controls as well. She was named the BIG EAST Midfielder of the Week on two occasions (4/19 and 4/26), as well as earning two BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll Awards on March 15 and March 29.
This is her second-consecutive nod to the first team. She was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST squad.
Senior attacker Corinne Etchison (Eldersburg, Md./McDonogh School) was also named to the first team. She is third on the squad in scoring with 20 goals and a team-best 11 assists for 31 points. Etchison has gone 3-for-6 on free position shots this season.
Etchison ranks among the all-time leaders in career goals (82), assists (43) and points (125).
This is Etchison's third All-BIG EAST honor and her first nod to the first team. She was also named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST squad.
Senior Kassandra Bowling (Monkton, Md./Bryn Mawr School) earned a spot on the second team. The defender has started all 16 games for the Blue & Gray this season on the backline. She is leading the team with 16 caused turnovers, and has 19 ground balls on the year.
Freshman Francesca Whitehurst (Baltimore, Md./Roland Park Country School) rounded out the All-BIG EAST honorees earning a spot on the second team. Whitehurst leads the squad in scoring with 33 points on 22 goals and a team-high 11 assists. She was 2-for-4 on free position shots and is third in draw controls with 19.
Whitehurst was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week on March 1, and was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll on April 26.
The BIG EAST Championship semifinal games are scheduled for Thursday, May 5 at Cooper Field. The fourth-seeded Hoyas will battle the top-seeded Gators from the University of Florida at 4:30 p.m., while the second-seeded University of Connecticut Huskies will face third-seeded Temple University at 7 p.m. Both games can be seen live on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN) and live stats will be available at www.BIGEAST.com.
The championship is scheduled for Saturday, May 7 at Cooper Field at 2 p.m. It can be seen live on FOX Sports 2.
Tickets for Thursday are $10 (includes both games), and tickets for Saturday are $5. All students with a valid BIG EAST student ID get in free.
