Baseball Rallies to Defeat No. 23 Creighton, 3-2

WASHINGTON - Beau Hall (Seaville, N.J./Ocean City) drove in Richie O'Reilly (Hermosa Beach, Calif./Loyola HS) three times as the Georgetown University baseball team overcame an early deficit to defeat No. 23 Creighton University, 3-2, on Sunday afternoon in a BIG EAST Conference game at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Neb. With the win, GU salvaged the series finale and improved to 24-26 on the season and 7-8 in BIG EAST play, while Creighton fell to 32-10 overall and 10-2 in conference action.

Hall finished a perfect 3-for-3 and drove in all three runs. O'Reilly and Chase Bushor (San Diego, Calif./Santa Fe Christian) each had two hits, while O'Reilly was on base three time and scored all three runs.

Jack Cushing (Flower Mound, Texas/Marcus) started on the mound for the Hoyas and went 6.1 strong innings, giving up just two runs on five hits and two walks. Tim Davis (Vienna, Va./James Madison HS) fired 1.2 innings of relief with two strikeouts to pick up his third win of the season. David Ellingson (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands College Park) pitched a perfect ninth inning, with one strikeout, for his 10th save of the season.

Creighton took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning on a pair of singles and two RBI ground outs.

The Hoyas began chipping away at the deficit, getting a run back in the top of the fifth. O'Reilly reached on an error to lead things off and went to second on a bunt single by Ryan Weisenberg (Parkland, Fla./San Ramon Valley). Austin Shirley (Strafford, Pa./Conestoga) bunted both runners into scoring position and O'Reilly scored on a sacrifice fly to right by Hall, cutting Creighton's lead to 2-1.

Georgetown tied the game in the top of the seventh. O'Reilly again led off the inning, reaching on a single to center field. He advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Weisenberg. One out later, Hall lined an RBI single to right field as O'Reilly beat the throw home to tie the score, 2-2.

The Bluejays loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the seventh, but Davis came on and got a strikeout and ground out to strand the runners.

Davis again got out of a jam in the bottom of the eighth inning, stranding a two-out triple with his second strikeout.

In the top of the ninth, O'Reilly led off for a third time and again singled up the middle. Weisenberg laid down another sacrifice bunt to move O'Reilly into scoring position. After Shirley walked, Hall lined a double down the left field line, scoring O'Reilly to give the Hoyas the 3-2 lead.

Ellingson came on in the ninth and fired a perfect inning, getting two ground outs and a strikeout to preserve the win.

Georgetown will play its final road game of the season at the University of Maryland Baltimore County on Tuesday, May 10. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Notes
Sunday was Davis' 95th career pitching appearance, tying Pablo Vinent ('12) for the program record om career appearances.
