Emily Infeld Makes U.S. Olympic Team in 10,000m

July 2, 2016

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University alum Emily Infeld made Team USA in the 10,000-meter run as she finished second at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials on Saturday afternoon.

Infeld, who suffered from a stress fracture earlier in the season, was competing in her first outdoor race of 2016. She ran a smart race, staying tucked in along the rail as competitors continued to drop off as leader Molly Huddle increased the pace.

With 1,000 meters to go, a trio of runners were able to hold on and Team USA was essentially decided as the Huddle, Infeld and Marielle Hall had built enough of a gap on the field.

On bell lap, Huddle kicked and Infeld, now running for Nike's Bowerman Track Club, followed and took second place with a time of 31:46.09.

All three runners have run the Olympic standard and will travel to Rio to represent Team USA at the 2016 Summer Olympics.

Rising junior and All-American Joe White (Clifton, N.J./DePaul Catholic) competed in the men's 800-meter semifinals on Saturday afternoon, but did not advance to the finals of the event.
