WASHINGTON – The Georgetown track & field team wrapped up the 2026 BIG EAST Outdoor Championships on Saturday, capturing five event titles and sending 13 Hoyas to the podium on the final day of competition. The men's team delivered a powerhouse performance to finish third overall with 97 points, while the women's squad placed sixth with 65 points.
The Hoyas dominated the middle-distance and sprint events on championship Saturday, highlighted by
Tinoda Matsatsa defending his 800m crown in record-breaking fashion and
Nicholas Givan racing into the program record books to capture the 400m hurdles title. Georgetown also took home the top spots in the men's 400m dash and the men's 4x800m relay, while
Melissa Riggins reclaimed her throne at the top of the podium in the women's 1,500m run.
"The momentum from big performances Friday night certainly carried over to Saturday, as we realized several wins and podium finishes to close out the meet. A botched relay exchange on the men's 4x400-meter relay doesn't dampen what was a great day for our Hoyas. We take the highs and lows of this sport, learn from them, and use those lessons to make us better in the future. A few performances to highlight: Nick Givan's huge personal best of 50.17 (almost a full second faster than his previous best of 51.10 achieved at the Penn Relays) and the 3rd fastest time in school history, fastest in 17 years. Though she didn't come out victorious, the two runner-up efforts from
Charlotte Tomkinson (2nd in the 800m in a time of 2:02.64, having led the entire race) and coming back 40 minutes later to run a fantastic split of 2:03.57 deserves special mention. Still have so much more to strive for this season as we look forward to getting ready for the NCAA East Regional Meet in two weeks." - Head Coach
