Final Stats

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown field hockey team (2-2) was shutout on Sunday as it fell to Monmouth (4-0) on the road at So Sweet A Cat Field in West Long Branch, New Jersey, 2-0.

Senior Rachel Skonecki (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Red Land) made nine saves, while senior Devin Holmes (Fleetville, Pa./Wyoming Seminary) was credited with three defensive saves. With four defensive saves in the last two games, Holmes is already ranked 11th on the school's single season list. She now has eight for her career, ranking her seventh in program history.

The Hoyas were outshot, 25-5, and the Hawks also held a 17-6 advantage in corners.

In each of its last two losses, Georgetown has given up a goal in the game's first five minutes to fall behind early. On Sunday, Monmouth scored the game winner only 4:08 into the contest when Julie Laszlo scored off a penalty corner. She finished the game with a goal and an assist.

Despite being outshot, 15-1, and a 10-3 deficit in penalty corners in the opening half, Georgetown limited the Hawks to just one goal thanks to five saves from Skonecki and two defensive saves from Holmes.

The Hoyas picked up the pressure in the second half, holding a 3-1 edge in shots and corners over the first 20 minutes. However, Monmouth totaled nine of the game's final 10 shots and earned the last six penalty corners, adding an insurance tally with 10:04 remaining to provide the final margin of victory.

The Hawks (4-0) have outscored its opponents 13-1 this season while winning its last three by shutout and outshooting the opposition, 53-24. After closing out its four-game road trip to open the 2016 season, Georgetown will finally get to make its home debut on Friday when it welcomes William & Mary to Cooper Field for a nonconference contest at 1 p.m. The Hoyas won five home games a year ago, their highest total since 2002, and posted eight of their 14 wins in 2014 and 2015 at Cooper Field.
